Swede
We have created a swede of the music video 24K Magic by Bruno Mars. The brief was to recreate 1 minute of a popular existing music video with no budget. In order to do this we had to draw out a storyboard and write a shot by shot list to make sure it was planned properly as the more planning we did, the easier it would be to create the final product.
I learnt a lot during this task-
We were working in partners and as Noa was featured in the video, I had to execute a lot of the camera work. Through this, I became much more familiar with the way the camera worked and learnt how to make sure the camera was in focus, that we had the right lighting amongst other things.
When it came to editing the video, I had only used the editing programme Final Cut a couple of times before and was unsure of how it worked. Through creating this swede I was able to develop my editing skills using Final Cut and learn properly how it worked, in preparation for creating my music video. After creating this swede, I feel I now have the skills to use Final Cut effectively to create our music video.
We still had some sections in our swede that were incomplete, this is represented by the black sections. From filming this swede I learnt the importance of making a realistic production schedule to ensure all the filming gets done on time. We did not use our time effectively when filming for the swede and we learnt from this mistake, ensuring that we created a detailed production schedule for the music video.
We chose a video which required quite a lot of people in certain scenes and this was made difficult by people's lack of availability and willingness to take part. We learnt from this and chose to use a limited number of people in our music video to avoid having this issue again. By only including a maximum of 5 people, it has been far easier to organise dates and times to film.
The swede is not cut to the beat as well as it could have been and this is something I have improved on by practising using final cut and through the cutting to the beat tasks I have completed.
The lip synching also does not match up, so for our final music video we have made sure that the performer knew the song lyrics and that during editing we matched up the lip synching properly.
I feel I have learnt a lot during the process of creating this swede and I can use what I have learnt to make sure my music video is the best it can be.
