Rachel Leveney A2 Media Studies Portfolio

I have used the Web 2.0 tools Slideshare, Powtoon and Piktochart to present my answer to the evaluation question 'How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?' Through answering this evaluation question, I was able to reflect on my use of technology throughout the process of completing my coursework. I was able to look at the progress I had made from AS to A2, and look at the things that I have improved on, as well as identify the elements that I still find challenging. My answers to this question will be very helpful to me when it comes to preparing for section 1a of the exam paper, which requires me to evaluate my coursework in detail and explain the differences between my work at AS level and my work at A2.             

I used the Web 2.0 tools Piktochart and Slideshare to present my answers to the evaluation question 'What have you learnt from your audience feedback?' Through answering this evaluation question, I was able to reflect on whether I made full use of my audience feedback during the creation of my final products, or whether I could have collected more or used the feedback I had in a more effective way. Researching final products similar to yours is important but to rely solely on your own research and not utilise the opinion of your target audience may not have been the most effective process, as your target audience can tell you what it is that will attract them to a product on a more personal level that cannot be reached through research alone. I feel that I did use my audience feedback effectively, although I feel that it would have been useful to me to have collected more feedback from my target audience throughout the process of production of all of my final products. ...

I have used the Web 2.0 tools Padlet and Emaze to answer the evaluation question 'How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?' I was able to use this evaluation question to analyse the links between my ancillary tasks and my video, and between my album advert and digipak. It is important to ensure there is a connection between my music video and ancillary tasks, because the audience need to feel a sense of continuity; that the video will lead them to buy the album, and the advert will lead them to watch the video. Whether I managed do achieve this successfully was something that I was able to explore through completing this evaluation question, and I was able to show how I continued my house style across both my advert and digipak, and then also link this back to my music video.        

I have used the Web 2.0 tools Prezi and Photoshop to present my answer to the evaluation question 'In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?' When I first started this coursework project, I learnt about the conventions of music videos, album adverts and digipaks and Goodwin's Theory. Through this evaluation question, I was able to reflect on my own work, and how I used existing products to inspire me, and show that I included all the important conventions, or explain why I broke certain conventions. I was also able to compare my music video to Goodwin's theory, a very influential theory in the music video industry that applied within the majority of pre-existing music videos.     

We have collected feedback from members of our target audience on our final music video, which we edited together using Final Cut. Audience feedback is very important because we want our final product to appeal to a certain audience so we need to make sure that our target audience like our final product.
